Bipolar weather in Paris - brilliant sunshine alternating with sudden downpours from blackening skies. Spectaculqr architecture and gallic charm abound. Guess what American movie my French friends decided we should see? Pictured: Denis circa 1993.

In Paris and very very happy to see my dear friend Denis and his boyfriend Christian. It's suddenly very sunny here - off to MuseƩ D'Orsay and to stroll by the Seine.... and tomorrow night, home sweet home....

So I'm coming home to NY Sunday, not Monday, after all. All three managers made other plans for Monday morning. Ping. Pong. Ping. Pong. Ping. Pong.

Nift

If hefty people have heft, and pithy sayings have pith, why shouldn't nifty sayings have "nift"? On that note, my quotes du jour:

"A meeting is a place where the minutes are kept, but the hours are lost" - anonymous

"If your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt it!" - some businessman quoted on Bloomberg screen last week

Today: 3 meetings, scramble to Heathrow, plane to Paris, and midnight reunion w Denis and Christian on beautiful Quai de Valmy. This is where the French movie icon Arletty made her famous 'atmosphere' speech (after her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend told her 'I need to change my atmosphere, and my atmosphere is you.') Arletty is the star of the epic "Children of Paradise" from 1945, which is France's equivalent of "Gone With The Wind" for its sweep, romance, and splendor. Btw, the picture above is from TopLeftPixel, one of my favorite photoblogs.

Not A Selling Point

Running on adrenalin, but running well! I love marketing. I thrive on attention. I adore a captive audience. : - ) It's nice to feel wired. Looks like I'm coming back here Sunday night to see my bosses Monday morning before flying home. Our secretary's gonna love this : - ) I'm staying at the Millenium on Grosvenor Square. It is next to the American Embassy. I am not sure this is a selling point (see picture) : - )

I just arrived in Sunny London, safe, sound, and somewhat sleep-deprived. And quite happy nonetheless. It was a trip rich in mishaps and anecdote potential - which must wait for later, since I have four back-to-back meetings beginning in just 8 minutes! I'm delighted to be having dinner with Doug, who's based here, tonight. And tomorrow evening, I fly to Paris to spend the weekend with my dear pals Denis and Chrisitian. 6 minutes left. Better scurry. Have a great day stateside, or whereever you may be.

Take Me Down To Martha's Farm

Rolling hills, winding dirt roads, huge tracts of land, classic American homes... Such are my impressions of Pound Ridge, NY and environs, during a lovely drive around the area with my Pound-Ridge-ian friends, Kevin and Stephen, who I visited on Monday. Many celebrities call this area home, among them a recent arrival named Martha Stewart, whose 'farm' we drove by. This amalgamation of century-old farmsteads resembles at first glance a historical restoration, a la Old Sturbridge Village. Oddly, what looks like the newly-built main residence is right near the fence. You'd think she'd have put it far away from curious eyes, being a recent project and all. Or, perhaps this gargantuan stone mosaic building is actually a guest house or even a barn. Later, we passed a residential community more suggestive of Martha's immediate future: the Taconic Women's Correctional Facility. : - ) It did look odd, surrounded by high fence of barbed wire, amid the placid and tony surroundings.

Check out the fake Bill Clinton blog. Very cute. : - ) I wish he really would start a blog.

Quote of the Day:

Thomas E. Dewey woke up and learned that Harry Truman, not he, actually won the presidential election, when all the votes were counted. Dewey said he felt like a man who awoke in a sealed coffin with a lily in his hand. "If I'm alive, what am I doing here?" he asked. "And if I'm dead, why do I have to go to the bathroom?"

Dewey Wins? : - ) The Post screwed up and announced Gephardt was Kerry's VP pick, but their Scoop turned out to be Poop. : - ) I usually avoid current events on this page, but as a fashion and culinary note, I think the egg all over Rupert Murdoch's face is very becoming : -) "Oh no!" was my reaction when I saw the Gephardt headline in the subway. Imagine my relief just minutes later at my desk, getting the real story. I'm so happy. Edwards is the man. And a cute one, at that. : - ) Below, another great headline screw-up, from 1948! Truman sure looks happy!

Chutes Too Narrow...

Reasons To Be Cheerful... These are The Shins, who have graced us with two delightful, flawless CDs, each one a banquet of lyrical wit and melodic roads less traveled. Sample lyrics:

"After that confrontation
You left me wringing my cold hands
We shared some information
We might not recover from
And I watch your convictions
Melt like ice cubes in an ocean
You were so poorly cast as a malcontent"

- Shins, "Mine's Not A High Horse", 2003

Aaron the Talking Head...

'Twas a solitary July 4 (and 3). I went to the Met Museum today and photographed about 800 works of art in 3 hours, to enjoy at home via slide-show shuffle play. Some friends had invited me to a barbecue in Westchester but it was cancelled at the last minute. Tomorrow, I have another Westchester invitation, which is thus far uncancelled. Tomorrow night: drinks with Bart and probably Will, also thus far uncancelled. Work recommences Tuesday, highly unlikely that anyone will cancel that. Here, for your amusement, are pictures of me on (closed-circuit) TV, practicing being interviewed with ABN's media consultant. Aaron the talking head. : - ) Happy 4th!
