'My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker...'
Perhaps the most intriguing musical 'introduction' since 'My Name is Luka..' back in 1987, today's Song of The Week is 'Geraldine' by the Glasgow-based Scottish alt-rock quartet Glasvegas....
(full disclosure - my Dad was a social worker...)
This earthy group have been singing their hearts and social consciousness out since 2003, but just this last year has the UK music world taken notice, with moderate airplay in the UK, a huge hit in Scotland proper, an NME award, and a Mercury Prize nomination... Enjoy.... Following the videos, check out the wonderful lyrics of 'Geraldine...'
Their video's been 'blog-proofed' by their record company, but here's a lovely live acoustic version of 'Geraldine' by lead singer James Allan...
Here's their other UK hit song, 'Daddy's Gone,' also live and acoustic, this time on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge...
Geraldine
(James Allen)
When your sparkle evades your soul
I'll be at your side to console
When you're standing on the window ledge
I'll talk you back from the edge
I will turn your tide
Be your shepard and your guide
When you're lost in the deep and darkest place around
May my words walk you home safe and sound
When you say that I'm no good and you feel like walking
I need to make sure you know thats just the Prescription talking
When your feet decide to walk you on the wayward side
Up upon the stairs and down the downward slide
I will, I will turn your tide
Do all that I can to heal you inside
I'll be the angel on your shoulder
My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker
I see you need me
I know you do
