Distinctive Ear Candy
Today, some funky British dance ear candy that US radio may not ever feed you... too early to tell. Melodic verses, a catchy chorus, and inventive, foot-stomping production make 'New In Town,' by Little Boots into something very special.... Little Boots is 25-year-old Victoria Hesketh, an electropop singer and musician who plays keyboards including piano, stylophone, and a Japanese electronic instrument called the 'Tenori-on.' Hesketh, whose 'Little Boots' moniker is the plural English translation of 'Caligula', was a failed 'Pop Idol' contestant at age 16. For three years she fronted the band Dead Disco, a pop combo that named itself by randomly picking words from a hat..
She went solo last year and joins the ranks of up-and-coming British 20-something female singer/songwriters, a group spearheaded by Lady GaGa, who broke through in the US bigtime this year, and which also includes Ladyhawke, La Roux, and Florence and the Machine...

Little Boots' follow-up single is a full-on attack.. I like it, though one critic called it 'Poker Face as sung by Mary Poppins!' Ouch!
