Put Up The Dukes!

The UK foursome The Duke Spirit are really on to something! They're using a Phil Spector/Girl Group Wall of Sound® to make the energy and smarts of shoegazing and noise rock tasty and irresistible.... They are led by the musucular lead vocals of Liela Moss and propelled not only by guitars and drums, but also by glockenspiels, harmonicas, autoharps, and farsifa organs.... So My Bloody Valentine and Patti Smith meet the Shangri-Las, combining 'tempestuous' and 'pretty, and exceeding all expectations...

Today's Song/Video of the Week, 'My Sunken Treasure,' makes a very convincing case for this approach....

Their previous single, 'The Step and The Walk,' highlights their shoegazing side... it's more brooding and rough than 'Treasure' but it subtly grabs you and works up quite a garage groove...

The group are up and coming, with late night talk show appearances and high-profile warm-up gigs. Here they are performing 'Lassoo' on Letterman...
