In Hoc Signo Vinces
I read this phrase in 'A Child's History of the World,' in the East Meadow Public Library, as a lad..Much later, New York magazine had a contest for the best incorrectly translated foreign expression. This was translated as 'Vinnie pawned his ring.' :-)
In the same issue, 'Hava Nagila' was mis-translated as 'the lizard's on me....'
