Never Miss A Beat
2008's penultimate Song of The Week is 'Never Miss A Beat,' the latest burst of fresh air from British neo-new-wavesters Kaiser Chiefs.
This group's cheeky wit, neo-retro melodicism, and clever songwriting won me over from the get-go, back in 2005, with their early singles 'Every Day I Love You Less and Less' and 'Oh My God,' both of which can be enjoyed below..
The Chiefs' early albums, while good, felt top-heavy compared to the strong singles.
Not this time, every single track on their just-released 'Off With Their Heads' is a gem...
Without further ado, the lead-off single, 'Never Miss A Beat...,' live on BBC with very good sound quality
The Chiefs actually formed in 1997 and wouldn't release an album for over seven years! They are named after a South African soccer team...
Critical accolades soon followed, and Drowned In Sound put it best: "quintessentially British, without pretension and most importantly, a whole lot of fun.."
Anyway, a quick stroll through their best moments follows...
"Every Day I Love You Less and Less" had great special effects!
"Oh My God"
"Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning), live in Antwerp..."
