Latter-Day Soul Sister

Let's end 2008 with some R-E-S-P-E-C-T...

Today's Song of the Week is 'Stuck To You' by funky, soulful, bluesy 38-year-old Nikka Costa, a blue-eyed soulstress/songwriter who's been kicking around for three decades...

She belts out like Aretha Franklin, Melba Moore, or any number of 60s-70s spunky, funky soul divas.. She is, fittingly, signed to the legendary soul label Stax Records..

Fame is fleeting: a Hilfiger commercial in the mid-1990s, a 1981 hit at age 10 throughout Europe with 'Out Here On My Own,' a song from 'Fame...'

Her father was Don Costa, who produced and arranged none other than Frank Sinatra in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the classic 'My Way...'

She's not Brazilian, as her name might sound. Her Dad is from Boston, of Italian descent...
