Before I Was A Cliff, I Was A Canyon

...before I was a feast, I was a famine... ...before I was the day, I was the dawn.... ...before I was a prince, I was a swan...

How can you resist lyrics like these?

It wasn't love at first sight for me at Les Savy Fav (lay-SAH-vee-FAHV), the NYC-based combo that provides today's Song/Video of the Week... A quick listen to their album felt like a good song or duo ruined by industrial murk... That impression changed completely when I tripped upon the clip of their mesmerizing, wonderfully clever single, 'Brace Yourself.'

It's brainy and hip - imagine top-quality Peter Gabriel with more testosterone, and you'll get an idea. But why imagine when you can watch their delightful, trippy video... To paraphrase WCBS news, 'give it four minutes, it'll give you the world...'

Les Savy Fav consider themselves post-hardcore-art-rock and formed 13 years ago while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design. Singer Tim Harrington is known for educated, poetic lyrics and live show antics that include kissing multiple audience members and on-stage wardrobe changes...

After I fell for 'Brace Yourself,' I revisited the rest of their 'Let's Stay Friends' album and it sounded much better.
Another highlight is 'What Would Wolves Do?' Since I'm half Wolff, I appreciate any song with wolf references....

Here's the artsy, animated clip:
