Rio In The Rain

Raindrops keep falling on my shutter, but that doesn't mean I'll put my camera away and mutter... It rained cats and dogs yesterday in Rio. The hotel lent me and Bevan large, sturdy umbrellas and we took a two-hour stroll down the length of Copacabana.

Here's Oscar Niemeyer's emblematic sidewalk patterns, an ocean wave motif, and a random Carioca school kid...

Endless waves of sidewalk as the wind and rain beat the palm trees...

It was too rainy to ascend to either Corcovado (the Christ Statue) or Pão de Açucar (Sugar Loaf mountain, in Guanabara Bay) but this sand castle replica gave us an advance taste of these wonders, on which the sun will hopefully shine today and tomorrow..

At the end of Copacabana, along the cliffs of Leme, fisher-people in raincoats enjoy their national holiday....

Kiddie cars for rent?

McDonald's is just another glass food booth along the beach - I believe the meals are prepared under the ground...

Copacabana Panorama... The moody, sensuous mountains jut out from behind the beachfront hotels and residences...
