Buda in The Rain

It's very, VERY sunny here in NYC, but on yesterday's Palisades Cliffs hike along the Hudson's western shore, our band of adventurers got caught in a major downpour. We still clocked 7 miles, but 3 1/2 of those were re-tracing our steps... Fortunately, this happened BEFORE the 20 minute passage through a field of steep rocks and boulders which, when wet, would be quite scary..

So on this very, VERY sunny day I post some dreary-looking but interesting photos of Budapest in the pouring, pouring rain. Today, the Buda side of the Danube River...

Our cute guide took us to his university, where he studies economics. Here's a rare on campus statue of Mr. Karl Marx, not the most popular economist in these here parts.. : - )

Manicured flower beds burst with color in front of the Budapest Sheraton, right on the Danube river that separates stately, expensive and residential Buda from congested, chaotic downtown Pest.

Budapest's castle complex, under our umbrellas brellas brellas hey hey hey..

Color on the ground, but not in the sky. Ooo-ooo-ooh, what a little sunlight can doo-ooo-ooh

Regal view of busy Pest from the Castle heights across the Danube - that's St Stephen's Cathedral, the spiritual heart of Budapest, named for Hungary's first king, Stephen I, who firmly established the Magyars in the Danube valley.

A view to a bridge to a shore. Imagine all this in the sunlight...

Josef, our extremely cute guide, is a college junior and is proficient in English and German. He was very engaging and most knowledgeable about this city's history and architecture, and about all things Hungarian, including last year's protests against government corruption.

Josef's university economics department was all brown columns and wooden floors - very collegiate. Sorry this photo is so blurry.

What would Budapest be without paprika peppers, I ask you?

Less ripe, more yellow paprika peppers... that Peter Piper picked...

Speaking of pepper....
