Heart Of Steel
Today's musical selection, 'Heart of Steel,' is a rhythmic slice of soul from New Orleans-based funk and jazz jam band Galactic. Founded in 1994 as an octet, they've spent the past ten years alternating between quintet and sextet, with guitar, bass, organ, saxophone, drums, and occasionally, vocals..
But the powerful vocal gracing today's song is belted out by a guest, Grammy-winning Louisiana r&b legend Irma Thomas, whose first hit came in 1960, the year I was born, with the racy title '(You Can Have My Husband But) Don't Mess With My Man'...
Here they are, a-jammin'... Enjoy!
Here they are rehearsing with Cyril Neville...
And here they are live at the Pageant in St Louis, touring their impressive new album, Ya-Ka-May...
