Santa Came Early?

I'm so sick. Arrgh. But on with the show: First, I shall wax rhapsodic about my new über-gadget.. Then, my review of the film "Sherrybaby.." Ladies and gentlemen, my new boyfriend, the iPhone:

Yesterday, good in mood but sore of throat, I chose the soothing balm of an iPhone®. I saw David's on Saturday afternoon and just fell in love with it. That evening, Varun's model just intensified my iPhone frenzy. Today I did the deed. Music, weather, pictures, phone calls, text messaging, street directions and so much more...

This is what happens when you call yourself:

I watched "Sherrybaby" over the weekend, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal as the uneasy protagonist, fresh out of three years in jail and trying to pick up the pieces, including her four-year-old daughter.. She really deserved a few acting awards for this. Unflinching, tough, very rewarding, and told in an economic 90 minutes.

1. Four Words That Encapsule: "Can Ex-Convicts Start Over?"

2. Haiku (7-5-7):
"How to pay one's debt?
And rejoin the human race
Hurts within, without..."

3. Oblique Comment: I like films that show people with all their flaws and contradictions, nothing black and white, and no neatly-wrapped endings. I applaud this film for tackling the difficult subject of a convict's re-entry into society... As I grow older the horror of prison becomes more palpable on so many levels. It's the death by a thousand cuts. And after you leave, when you're done... Are you welcomed with open arms? Or with a thousand slamming doors?

4. Insight: Maggie Gyllenhaal's tour de force here is conveying her flawed character's tightrope walk, her conflicting needs and motivations, her need, her barriers... My insight: it's so hard to change ourselves even in the best of circumstances.... Imagine trying when the odds are so stacked against you...
