Most Countries Are Small

I'm ringing in 2006 with more trivia, in true Aaron fashion.

Only 23 of the world's 200-odd nations are have populations over 50 million. But 116 countries have less than 10 million inhabitants, and 85 of these are home to less than 5 million people.

Meanwhile, back in the US, we have 7 states over 10 million and another 13 states in between 5-10 million. So, 20 of our states are more populated than 85 countries.

We won't even get started on China and India....

Pictured above, one of the world's most beloved fictional countries, from "The Mouse That Roared," the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, whose Queen, Prime Minister, and Head Archer were all played by Peter Sellers.
